Reflection of Lesson!

The picture to the left shows that my students were able to understand the various ways in solving a word problem. When teaching this lesson, I was able to reflect off the day's activity and create something more challenging the following day. Being reflective is very important as an educator.

Focusing on a unit that was teaching my Kindergarten students about maps, directions, and finding their way around the community! After reflecting off the first lesson for the unit, I was able to modify the second and challenge my students by taking them on treasure hunt. They had to read the map in groups of six and find their way around the school to the treasure! (With the assistance of a teacher of course)

Teaching Students to be Reflective!

The picture on the right shows a very happy group that found the treasure by using the treasure map!------->

In my kindergarten classroom, reflecting off of our work is very important! At the end of every activity, such as morning journal and rotations of Daily Five a student that was working very hard is chosen to share with their class. When the student is sharing they sit on the teacher's chair and speak with a teacher's voce. They are talking about their illustrations and then begin to read what they have written. After they are done sharing with their classmates, I will give them a star. The star can be on puncuation, how they began their story, and even illustrations! Then they will recieve a star from their peers. This allows students to aid one another in the writing process. They review and critique as a group where it is safe for students to share what they liked and did not work. Then I will state a wish. I would say that I wish they did somethng differently. They would then recieve a wish from their peers. This makes peer reviewing a safe and comfortabel environment.

Treasure Hunt!

As an educator, I am a firm believer that it is absolutely necessary to maintain a safe and productive atmosphere in order to maintain classroom procedures throughout the school year. This is only done when there is an efficient classroom management plan that both the teacher and the students can understand and agree to.  As an authoritative and constructivist teacher, I work towards giving students independence in their work but also encourage collaborative group work as well. I reinforce the guidelines of the classroom, where students know, understand, and agree to what is expected of them. This not only makes classroom environment run smoothly but also allows an agreement where students and teacher believe the rules are fair and acceptable.

Classroom Management shows a Reflective Teacher

The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.

Paired Placement

For my student teaching experience, I was able to be apart of a team! I was part of the Paired Placement Pilot that the College of Education was testing. My co-teachers and I were able to reflect off of one another to reassure the best instruction possible. This made me more reflective as an educator.
