Fabulous time in Fifth Grade

Creating a classroom Community

We are not just a fifth grade classroom but a FAMILY. In our classroom community everyone works together to help support and guide one another to reach our one overall goal which is to continiously learn and grow as students and citizens of the world. We all here to support one another in our super safe and sweet classroom environment. To the right is an image of our classroom social contract that is signed by every student in the grade level inlcuding all the fifth grade teachers agreeing to what is expected of them during a fabulous school year.

Reading & Math Groups!
During our Math Groups time block, extra support and remediation is provided to students daily. Students are put into groups based off NWEA scores. Then according to RIT scores based on Math standards in the learning continuum provided by NWEA students are working on what they need most help in. Rotations for Math Groups include meet with teacher, computer time, or work on problems with math groups, and math games. Websites provided are also an extra remediation tool used to boost up those scores!

Reading Groups are made based on NWEA scores and students are put together depending on where their scores lie. Students have the roattions of meet with teacher, computer time, read to self, work on writing, or reading games. Rotations for both Math and Reading groups are based on a scehdule that is shown to the right. Students are also to check off their rotations in the clipboard to the bottom.

Experiment Time!!

While studying ecosystems and the different components that make up an ecosystem we were able to focus on decomposers by conducting an experiment using sugar, yeast, water, empty plastic bottles, and ballooons. Bottle A had sugar and water, bottle B yeast and water, and bottle C yeast and sugar inlcluding water. This showed students that decomposers (yeast) need food (sugar) and then release chemicals (carbon dioxide in the balloon).

My handy assitant and I shaking the bottles and awaiting to see the results----->
